Artesanías – A Taste of Spain in Sønderborg
When we first arrived in Sønderborg several years ago, the dining scene was pretty limited unless you were in the mood for a café burger or a standard pizza. But over the past decade, the town’s culinary options have evolved — and with the opening of Artesanías in December 2024, we may just have found one of our new favorites.

Located in the space that formerly housed Slidrs, the mini burger joint, Artesanías is a complete transformation. The name itself — Artesanías — means craftsmanship, and that philosophy is clear in every detail, from the interior to the carefully plated dishes.
We’ve visited Artesanías twice as a family with our two kids (7 and 10), who are both fairly adventurous eaters. In fact, when our youngest got to choose a restaurant while his older brother was away at camp, he picked Artesanías without hesitation — a pretty good sign, right?

Atmosphere & Service
Stepping into Artesanías feels like stepping into the heart of the Basque Country. Inspired by the traditional pintxos bars of Spain, the interior design creates a warm, close, and vibrant atmosphere. Seating is cozy and cleverly arranged with benches, encouraging a bustling, communal feeling where there’s always room to sneak in one more guest.
You immediately feel welcome, which is no accident. Lasse Hansen, who some might remember from Brasserie 1761, runs the floor with professionalism and ease. He’s attentive without being intrusive and brings a sense of calm confidence to the entire dining experience.

Food
The kitchen, led by Max Jernfort, turns out creative, flavor-packed dishes that encourage sharing and conversation around the table.
Pinchos are a must-try here. In Spain, pinchos (or pintxos in Basque) are small snacks typically served on skewers or small pieces of bread. They are known for their bold flavors, beautiful presentation, and endless variety. At Artesanías, the pinchos perfectly capture that spirit — each bite delivering a different taste experience. We’ve enjoyed several varieties, and each time, they were among the highlights of our meal.

Beyond the pinchos, we’ve also tried mains like lamb, rib-eye, and pork — and every dish has been a standout. The meats are expertly cooked, retaining all their natural flavors and tenderness.

A big favourite for our whole family has been the patatas bravas — crispy, golden potatoes paired with a lightly spicy sauce that everyone at the table loved (and fought over for the last bites!).
If you’re up for a full culinary journey, the Chef’s Choice menu offers a curated selection of the kitchen’s best dishes — a brilliant way to taste a wide range of flavors and textures without overthinking the order.
Small details like constant refills of cold water without needing to ask show just how much thought and care goes into every part of the experience.
Final Thoughts
Despite being Sønderborg’s newest restaurant, Artesanías already feels like an essential part of the town’s dining landscape. The prices are fair for the quality you receive, the ambience is spot-on, and it’s a perfect spot for a cozy date night, a night out with friends, or a family meal with curious eaters.
Whether you’re local or just visiting, Artesanías is a must.
It’s not just a meal — it’s a celebration of craft, flavor, and warm hospitality.
Tip: Space is limited, so it’s smart to book ahead — especially on weekends
