Greatest Places: Kegnæs
It has just been announced that Tiny Seaside on Kegnæs is on the prestigious Time Magazine’s list The World’s Greatest Places of 2025. Tiny Seaside consists of 20 tiny houses sitting right next to the sea on the south side of the small peninsula called Kegnæs.
Southern Jutland, part of the Danish peninsula that, true to its name, juts out into the Baltic Sea, is loved by Danes for its quiet vibes, spectacular scenery, and some of Northern Europe’s finest shorelines. Now it’s becoming a favored spot for “coolcations” too—holidays removed from the 100+°F Southern Europe summers born of climate change.

A big congratulations from us to Tiny Seaside – it’s quite a feat to get onto the radar of the international press let alone getting on this exclusive list!
Apart from Tiny Seaside, Kegnæs is a nice and quite place. It feels a bit like you get to the end of the world as you drive the across the tiny sliver of land that connects Kegnæs to the rest of Als.

More on Kegnæs
Kegnæs is a small peninsula in southern Denmark, connected to the island of Als by a narrow string of land (called an isthmus). Known for its flat landscapes, sandy beaches, and stunning coastal views of the Baltic Sea, it offers a peaceful, rural atmosphere with small villages rooted in agriculture and fishing. The Kegnæs Lighthouse is a notable landmark, providing panoramic views of the area. Popular among tourists, Kegnæs is ideal for cycling, hiking, fishing, and windsurfing, making it a great destination for a relaxing nature getaway.

Cycle trip around Kegnæs
Back in summer of 2023 we spent a day cycling around the peninsula of Kegnæs. Our kids were 5 and and 8 at the time and without too much complaining they managed to do the 14km loop we did on the west side of the island. If you loop the whole island it’s a route of about 22km.

As the peninsula is a bit of a dead-end there are very few cars so it’s a nice place for a quiet bike ride. Most of our route for this day was along the water except for a short stint inland (and uphill).

Kegnæs lighthouse
On other trips to Kegnæs we’ve gone to the beach below or the trail leading up to the Kegnæs light house that sits on top of a hill just south of the sliver of land that connects Kegnæs to the rest of Als.
There’s a parking lot once you get to Kegnæs and a narrow path up a field that leads to the light house.

Kegnæs Fyr is a historic lighthouse located on the Kegnæs peninsula in southern Denmark. Built in 1896, it stands 18 meters tall and serves as a navigational aid for ships in the Baltic Sea. The lighthouse is made of brick and painted white, with a small red-roofed building nearby that once housed the lighthouse keeper.
Today, Kegnæs Fyr is a popular spot for visitors, offering panoramic views of the surrounding coastline from its top. The area around the lighthouse is great for hiking and enjoying the tranquil coastal landscape. It remains an active lighthouse but is also a historical attraction showcasing Denmark’s maritime heritage.
