Sønderborg’s New 24/7 Mini Market – A Little Convenience, Anytime You Need It

Have you seen it yet? Tucked away just off the corner of Ringridervej and Grundtvigs Allé, there’s a new little shop that’s open all day, every day—literally 24/7. It’s called Købmanden 24/7, and it’s one of those small things that quietly makes life easier in Sønderborg.

I popped in yesterday, actually—5.30am, we were out of milk. It felt a bit surreal walking up to this glowing little shop at that hour, scanning in with my phone, and helping myself like it was the most normal thing in the world. But here we are—welcome to the future of the corner store!

So, what is it?

Think of Købmanden 24/7 as a tiny, unmanned convenience shop where you enter using your phone, grab what you need, and check out digitally. No cashiers, no queues—just shelves with the basics and a clean, modern setup. It’s stocked with everyday essentials like:

Fresh milk, butter, and eggs Frozen pizzas (yes!) Candy and soda for spontaneous movie nights Basic pantry staples like pasta, rice, and tomato sauce Toiletries and even baby wipes

  • Fresh milk, butter, and eggs
  • Sandwiches
  • Frozen pizzas (yes!)
  • Candy and soda for spontaneous movie nights
  • Beers and wine
  • Basic pantry staples like pasta, rice, and tomato sauce
  • Toiletries and even baby wipes

It’s not meant to replace your full grocery trip—but it’s perfect when you forgot the ketchup or need a snack after a late shift or a long day. I ran into the owner and said a good deal of the business is after 10pm when other supermarkets are closed.

How does it work?

It’s all app-based, but getting started is straightforward. You’ll need the Købmanden 24/7 app, and to sign in you can either:

  • Use your MitID (if you’re a Danish resident),
  • Or, if you’re a visitor or don’t have MitID, you can sign up with your passport directly through the app.

Once that’s done, it’s easy: just scan the QR code at the shop’s door using the app, and you’re in. Inside, everything is self-service. You grab what you need and check out at the touchscreen by the exit—just tap your card or phone to pay. Super convenient, day or night.

Don’t worry, there are security cameras and a quiet sense of “we trust you, just don’t be a jerk” built into the place.

Download and set up the app before you go

If you want to plan ahead a bit. Download the app and set it up before you get to the shop. The app is called Unlimit Key and are so far used by a handful of unmanned shops.

Why this matters in Sønderborg

We’ve got some great local stores, sure but let’s be honest: if you need something outside of regular hours, your only real option used to be a gas station. Købmanden 24/7 fills a lovely little gap. And especially in the south east of Sonderborg or for folks without a car, this could make a real difference.

It’s also part of a bigger trend—making rural and suburban living just a little more connected, flexible, and modern. It’s Danish design meets everyday problem-solving.
